FAQ

Q. Doesn’t Sechelt need water?

A. Yes. The SCRD is responsible for the water supply to the Sechelt area. Unless partnerships or grants bring the cost of a reservoir down substantially (estimates place it at $50M or more), I believe that groundwater wells are going to be the solution to the water supply issues of the Sunshine Coast for the foreseeable future. In the meantime, the Church Road well will supply an additional 5 million litres per day when it is brought online at the end of this year. A new well at Langdale is next. And the SCRD continues to follow up on the possibility of a reservoir. We need to continue to push the Province to make licensing faster and easier for local government.

Q. How do you feel about the Havies (and other development)?

A. We need development. Without it, real estate prices will skyrocket as people with financial means push our locals out of the market. What that development looks like can vary wildly. The Havies is zoning and OCP compliant. I voted against their development permit for form and character after being left unsatisfied with the answers we received as to why they didn’t look more at town houses, or other more compact form factors which would better suit the needs of our community. Ensuring that our developments are sustainable and include lots of green spaces is going to be critical for the Sechelt of tomorrow.

Q. What can we do about climate change?

A. Coming Soon

Q. How do you feel about youth sports?

A. Coming Soon

Q. Why don’t you run for mayor?

A. I have been asked this many times. I respect anyone who takes on the role of mayor. You’re the first one to be blamed, and the last one to be praised. At this time, I don’t have the personal bandwidth to give Sechelt the attention that it deserves from a mayor. I have a family, and multiple businesses, and am trying to position my family for long term success. I enjoy the work of Council, and it’s how I’ve chosen to contribute at this time.
